Vojteh Ravnikar would have celebrated his 80th birthday today, but unfortunately, he did not live to celebrate. In 2010 he passed away far too soon, but he left behind a wide range of creations: from architecture, Piranesi magazine, Piran Architecture Days, teaching at the Faculty of Architecture, scenography, drawings, plans... and last but not least, colleagues and students, who often recognized his mastery of architecture through his relaxed and colorful sketches that sometimes said more than his words. Vojteh's sketches reflect his joy for architecture, work, enjoying life, wine, jazz, and poetry.
Let us remember him with his poem:
When there is no day,
it is night,
when there is no road,
there is a path.
When you are not here,
it is as if all meaning is lost,
the tree and the vine,
against each other.
A word breaks without sound,
what burns is no longer hot:
the shade is not cool and water doesn’t quench.
It is rain that will cleanse everything,
that will permeate meaning,
and the seed of repentance will take hold,
and branches grow green again.
